Gram-Positive Aerobes which can be killed with this powerful antibiotic include Streptococcus pneumonia; viridans group Streptococcus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Staphylococcus epidermidis. It is important to notice that this antibiotic is effective against both β-lactamase and non–β-lactamase–producing bacteria.
Among Gram-Negative Aerobes there are Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Proteus mirabilis, and Eikenella corrodens
Augmentin has been shown to be effective against such Anaerobic Bacteria as Bacteroides, Fusobacterium and Peptostreptococcus species.
Indications for using of Augmentin Suspension are such conditions as Lower Respiratory Tract Infections, Urinary Tract Infections, Skin and Skin Structure Infections, Sinusitis, Otitis Media, infections caused by ampicillin-susceptible organisms.
AUGMENTIN is generally well tolerated. Most of the side effects were mild and transient. Besides, less than 3% of patients discontinued therapy because of Augmentin-related side effects.

Augmentin is a semi synthetic antibiotic with very low toxicity comparing to others. It comes in number of formulations including Augmentin ES-600, Augmentin suspension and chewable tablets, Augmentin tablets, and Augmentin XR. It is helpful against variety of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.
However some of the bacteria may be resistant to it. So, if it is possible, the laboratories should make tests in vitro to help physician choose the appropriate antimicrobial medication.
It is also important to remember that AUGMENTIN ES-600 is prohibited in patients with a history of allergic reactions to any penicillin, and cholestatic dysfunction associated with AUGMENTIN.
Augmentin ES-600 represents Powder for Oral Suspension, which contains mainly amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium. Inactive ingredients are: aspartame, colloidal silicon dioxide, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, xanthan gum, strawberry cream flavor, and silicon dioxide.
This powerful medicine is used to treat or prevent diseases that are strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria. It can be used to kill such bacteria as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus influenza, Moraxella catarrhalis. In some cases Augmentin ES-600 can be prescribed for use in pediatric patients aged under 2 years with Acute otitis media due to S. pneumonia. However, such disease can be treated with amoxicillin alone.
The dosing schedule for patients who are prescribed AUGMENTIN ES-600 is as follows: take it every 12 hours with a meal or snack (to reduce the possibility of diarrhea). Though diarrhea is common problem for people taking antibiotics, you should notify your doctor if severe diarrhea lasts for more than three days, or other unpleasant symptoms bother you.

Acne is a disease caused by the action of hormones on the hair follicle, sebaceous gland, and a hair. Because of acne, the follicle becomes obstructed and its linen is affected badly. This causes inflammatory response. Antibiotics are effective therapy to treat acne. They work in several directions:

Decrease the number of bacteria in follicle.

Decrease an amount of irritating chemicals produced by white blood cells.

Reduce the concentration of free fatty acids in the skin, leading to essential reduction of inflammatory response.

Usually doctors prescribe the antibiotics from the list below in order to treat acne:

Tetracycline

Erythromycin

Minocycline

Doxycycline

Clindamycin

In fact, Tetracycline is prescribed the most often to treat acne. As a rule, you will have to start from 500 mg twice a day, and take this dose until a significant cease in visible acne lesions. After this your doctor will probably reduce the dose to 250 mg twice a day or tell you to stop treatment with antibiotics for some time. Note, that you should take Tetracycline on empty stomach for best effect. Do not take Tetracycline if you are pregnant. If you are teenager and eat frequently, please ask your doctor to prescribe you another antibiotic, for example Erythromycin.

Erythromycin is a very common antibiotic used to stop symptoms of acne. It helps to reduce redness and inflammation. Besides, you may accept the pills of Erythromycin with food. This absolutely benefits people suffering from emotional eating. Also there are no restrictions for using this antibiotic. It can be used even by pregnant women. Sometimes it causes stomach upset. The usual dose is 500 mg daily, 250 mg twice a day.
There are other alternatives to treat acne. For example, Minocycline.

Minocycline is an antibiotic that represents tetracycline derivative. It has shown its effectiveness in millions of patients who has cure there acne with it. It is especially effective for pustular type acne. It is better to take this antibiotic without food, but if you fail to do so, its action won’t reduce significantly. Usually it is prescribed to take 100 mg two times a day. You may experience dizziness, nausea, vomiting, skin pigmentation changes, and tooth discoloration while you are treating with Minocycline, but it is not obligatory. Do not take Minocycline for a long time without prescription.

If you have a problem that you do not respond to or cannot tolerate Erythromycin or Tetracycline, maybe it is a right decision to try Doxycycline. Take as rescribed: 50 to 100 mg twice a day, with food. If taken on empty stomach, it can cause nausea. Also do not pend too much time at the sun while taking this antibiotic.
Another very useful topical antibiotic use to cure acne is Clindamycin. It is used in amounts of 75 to 100 mg daily.
We wish you all the best in your efforts to overcome acne. With antibiotics there is nothing impossible. Good luck and be healthy!

As we mentioned before (How to chose an antibiotic), not all diseases require treatment with antibiotics. When your child feel uncomfortable, for example has throat ache or stuffy nose, first thing you should do is ask your doctor about the ways of treatment without the use of antibiotics. It is very important to use antibiotics only when they are clearly needed in order to minimize bacterial resistance.

Try to follow these useful tips:

Viral infections should not be treated by antibiotics. Your doctor can estimate whether the infection is viral or bacterial, and prescribe proper treatment. Don’t press on your doctor to prescribe antibiotics if she says that your child is having viral infection. In case of viral infections antibiotics are unable to help.

Use antibiotics exactly as prescribed, don’t overdose and don’t save antibiotics for next time.

It is very important to accept the full course of medicine for full treatment. Sometimes, after 2 or 3 days of treatment, the child feels better, and parents decide to stop treatments with antibiotics. This is not a good idea.
Also, if you want your child recover faster, please encourage him or her to wash her hands, and don’t let your children go to school when they are ill.

Every antibiotic works well and effectively only against exact type of bacteria. This is why, it is impossible to realize which antibiotic you need without the doctor. It is known that certain infections are caused only by corresponding kinds of bacteria. The process of selecting antibiotic starts when the doctor estimates which bacteria you have. There are lists of antibiotics which are effective against each type of bacteria.

Antibiotics tablets

If the doctor finds the antibiotic in such list, and knows for certain that it is effective against this bacteria, further testing is not necessary. However in some cases, infections may be caused by many different types of bacteria or by bacteria that “already know” this antibiotic. In this case a medical laboratory is asked to determine the bacteria which caused the infection using samples of blood, urine, or tissue taken from the sick person. Such tests usually require about a day or two, but they help to understand which bacteria we deal with and is it resistible to the antibiotic.

But sometimes there appear other problems. For example, sometimes tests may be done, but the prescribed antibiotic may not act as well as it should because the drug is not absorbed into the bloodstream well enough. The drug may also not reach the sites of the infection good enough. Such effects are not often, but they can appear because of interaction with other drugs, or any other disorders that the patient has.

Antibiotics are very useful in many cases, but they can cause real side effects. That is why it is necessary to use them wisely. For example, you need to consult your doctor, and usually not use antibiotics in case of acute bronchitis.
It is not recommended to take antibiotics for longer than prescribed because this may cause vaginal yeast infection.
Other problem which may appear either alone, or because of using antibiotics is Clostridium difficile (also called C. difficile). This is inflammation, which makes you feel swelling and irritation of the large intestine, or colon.
To confirm the diagnosis, a stool sample will be tested to look for the toxins C. difficile produces.
Your doctor will treat C. difficile colitis with antibiotics other than the one that caused the infection. You will likely take vancomycin or metronidazole by mouth.
In rare cases, a person might need surgery to remove part of the intestines. This would happen only if you did not get better with antibiotics and you developed a perforation in your intestines.

Why is this medication prescribed
Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria. Ciprofloxacin tablets and suspension (liquid) are used to treat pneumonia (lung infection); bronchitis (infection of the tubes that lead to the lungs); some types of gonorrhea (a sexually transmitted disease); diarrhea caused by bacteria; typhoid fever (a contagious illness common in developing countries); and bone, joint, skin, prostate (a male reproductive gland), sinus, and urinary tract (bladder) infections. Ciprofloxacin is also used to prevent and/or treat anthrax in people exposed to anthrax germs in the air. Ciprofloxacin is also used with another medication to treat certain infections of the internal organs. Ciprofloxacin extended release (long-acting) tablets are used to treat urinary tract and kidney infections. Ciprofloxacin is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It works by killing bacteria. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

Other uses for this medicine
Ciprofloxacin is also sometimes used to treat patients with cystic fibrosis who have lung infections. Ciprofloxacin is sometimes used to treat various sexually transmitted diseases and various infections such as Legionnaire disease (a type of lung infection), cat scratch disease (an infection that may develop after a patient is bitten or scratched by a cat), and brucellosis (a type of infection that causes a rising and falling fever and other symptoms). In the event of biological warfare, ciprofloxacin may be used to treat and prevent dangerous illness that are deliberately spread such as plague, tularemia, and anthrax of the skin or mouth. Ciprofloxacin may also be used to reduce the amount of certain types of bacteria in the nose to prevent serious illness. Ciprofloxacin may be used with another medication to treat disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) (a type of lung disease that often affects people with human immunodeficiency virus [HIV] ), and tuberculosis (TB) (a type of lung infection). Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your doctor may order certain lab tests to check your body’s response to ciprofloxacin.
Do not let anyone else take your medication. Your prescription is probably not refillable. If you still have symptoms of infection after you finish the ciprofloxacin, call your doctor.

Penicillin V kills certain bacteria that cause infection, or stops their growth. It treats many kinds of infections including those of the skin, brain, heart, respiratory tract, sinuses, and ears. Generic penicillin V tablets are available.
What should my health care professional know before I take penicillin V?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions: asthma; eczema; kidney disease; stomach problems (especially colitis); an unusual or allergic reaction to penicillins, cephalosporin antibiotics, imipenem, foods, dyes, or preservatives; breast-feeding

How should I take this medicine?
Take penicillin V tablets by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Take with a full glass of water; try to take while in a sitting or upright position. It is best to take penicillin V 1 to 2 hours before or at least 2 hours after eating; taking it with food can make it less effective. If penicillin V upsets your stomach you can take it with food. If possible, bedtime doses should be taken at least 10 minutes before actually reclining. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Finish the full course prescribed by your prescriber or health care professional even if you think your condition is better. Do not stop taking except on your prescriber’s advice.

What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses. There should be an interval of at least 4 to 6 hours between doses.
What drug(s) may interact with penicillin V?; certain antibiotics given by injection; female hormones, including contraceptive or birth control pills; probenecid
Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

What side effects may I notice from taking penicillin V?
Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:; dark yellow or brown urine; difficulty breathing, wheezing; fever or chills, sore throat; headache; less frequent passing of urine; pain on swallowing; red spots on the skin; redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth; seizures (convulsions); severe or watery diarrhea; skin rash, itching; swelling of face and neck; unusual bleeding or bruising; unusual weakness or tiredness
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):; diarrhea; nausea, vomiting; sore mouth

What should I watch for while taking penicillin V?
Tell your prescriber or health care professional if your symptoms do not improve in 2 or 3 days.
If you get severe or watery diarrhea, do not treat yourself. Call your prescriber or health care professional for advice.
If you get a skin rash, do not treat yourself. Call your prescriber or health care professional for advice.
If you are diabetic and taking large doses of penicillin, you may get a false-positive result for sugar in your urine. Check with your prescriber or health care professional before you change your diet or the dose of your diabetic medicine.
Birth control pills (contraceptive pills) may not work properly while you are taking this medicine. Use an extra method of birth control for at least one month.

Where can I keep my medicine?
Keep out of the reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.
Store at room temperature between 15-30 degrees C (59-86 degrees F). Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
